Why do people, mostly men, think that they can get rid of a situation by speaking of love?

Woman: You broke my damn necklace!!
Man: ....but I love you babe.

Woman: You cheated on me with my cousin's baby's father's aunt's daughter.
Man: ....but I love YOU.

Is that supposed to really clear the drama from your life? Is that supposed to make me feel better? LOL people kill me. People want to feel as if they someone is sympathizing with them and actually FEEL their pain. I love you does not cut it in every situation. Soon enough it becomes the word sorry and just gets played.

....but I love you though.
